BOTSYO FOR GOLD
Three-time Paralympian Raphael Botyso Nkegbe has begun his latest quest, Botsyo for GOLD! This International para-sport athlete has represented Ghana in numerous sporting events over the past 15 years including 3 Paralympics, Commonwealth Games, All Africa Games and many international competitions. As a participant in the last 3 All Africa Games, Botsyo has made Ghana proud with his multiple medal accomplishments including bronzes and silvers. What has been missing for Ghana however, is taking home the Gold. Botsyo has made a commitment to do everything possible to, at long last, bring home the Gold for his country.
The Challenges as a Para-athlete in Ghana are significant and unfortunately put our athletes at a great disadvantage on the world stage. A lack of enough funding results in substandard equipment and inadequate training and preparation.
The first big step in making this dream a reality happened this week when Botsyo received his brand-new custom racing wheelchair from the US. The Indian Women Association (IWA) presented the new chair worth over $7000 in hopes the new equipment would greatly aid Botyso's quest to win a gold medal. IWA has been a long-time supporter of The Go Get Dem Wheelchair Racing Club with their mandate of supporting the physically challenged to achieve their aims in life and continued contributions to national development. Raphael would like to personally thank and acknowledge his sincerest gratitude to IWA president Vanisha Daryanani and all member of this association for this incredible donation.
Thanks also to everyone who helped with the logistics and funding to have the wheelchair safely make the journey from the US to Ghana. Special appreciation to Michael Mozley, Joseph Kebbie, Lee Sonius and All For Humanity Association.
The 12th All African Games will take place from August 23 to September 3, 2019 in Casablanca and Rabat, Morocco. This will be the first time hosted by more than one city and will be the first time that the African Games will be hosted by Morocco
The next step in achieving this goal will be proper preparation, training and aligning with the right people to have the support needed. Raphael is 100% committed and determined to do everything possible to make this happen.
